Starring Will Ferrell as Jackie Moon, Semi-Pro, rated 1 star on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s Will Ferrell, how can it be that bad? The movie started with Jackie Moon singing his song ‘Love Me Sexy’ and commentators introducing Will Ferrell as the pre-game announcer, owner, coach, pop singing sensation, power forward. Semi-pro talks about an American Basketball Association (ABA) call Fint Tropics in 1976.

The issue started when the ABA association decided for a merger with the NBA with the catch of only the top 4 teams in the league will be allowed to join the NBA and the rest will be dissolved, however, Flint Tropics was at the bottom of the table and Flint Tropic’s owner, Jackie Moon was against dissolving the team. In order to climb onto the top 4 of the league, Jackie Moon traded in an old washing machine for an ex-NBA player call Ed Monix (Woody Harrelson). At that point of the movie, I was already starting to get bored of it, jokes are not that funny, in fact most of them are quite lame, there were retro-disco music everywhere.

Anyway, the team soon realized that their dreams are impossible to achieve if it continues thanks to Jackie Moon’s bad coaching and strategy and decided to get Ed Monix to coach them, which he did and they started winning matches again. Isn’t that very predicted? Right before the last match, the committee announced to them that even if they beat the last match, they won’t be able to join the NBA because the Flint is not a big enough media market which made all of them depressed and was planning to give up. Yeah, as you guessed, Ed Monix saved again and got the whole team going again to win the Megabowl. I finally know why Rotten Tomatoes rated the movie 1 out of 5 stars, if rated out of 10, I’d rate them 4 or 5 maximum, deducting points for the bad movie plot and lame jokes.
