Danny Maccabee is a successful plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who left his wedding when he found out that his fiancee cheated on him during his wedding day. Katherine Murphy is his office manager and is divorced with two children. After Danny meets Palmer at a party, they have connection together. However, Palmer founds Danny's wedding ring in his pocket and assumes that he was married and refused to be in a relationship with him. 

Danny then lies to Palmer telling her that he is getting a divorced with his wife. However, Palmer wants to meet his wife, so Danny ask Katherine to be his "wife"and Katherine's children were involved too. When everyone was out to meet Palmer,  Katherine's son suddenly broke down and continues that his (real) father promised him to bring him to Hawaii swim with the dolphins. 

Therefore, everyone went on a trip to Hawaii including Palmer and Katherine's "husband" Eddie. However, after Danny and Katherine spent some time in Hawaii they fell in love with each other. Knowing that the existence for each other is very important. Finally, on the day that Palmer and Danny was supposed to married, he did not marry her. In the end, he went to Katherine and soon after the both got married.
